Hi Lise
Just want to say, it was down to me regarding the "Perseverace Story". When I contacted Gaz Top at Music Box in 1985. We arranged to meet after I plugged The Slade Fan Club on Music Box. Went to his office, we introduced ourselves, then we went for lunch & a few beers at "Presley's (Elvis Theme Bar)in Tottenham Court Road, London.
I suggested that he should be an honouary member of the fan club. He's a die-hard Slade fan, we talked about various gigs etc...then the Idea came about the Slade Story. I left him to contact Colin Newman's office. Some weeks later, Gaz rang me and said "I've got the go ahead, but sadly he had to interview band Separately, Nod & Jim were the first to be interviewed, which was done very quickly, as Nod & Jim had other comittments. Then a few weeks later Don & Dave were interviewed...and had the pleasure of being invited to that. The interview went from start to finish without any re-takes...except at the end when Don said nice cup of tea...when it was coffee that he was drinking.
Gaz had to go to Germany to get most of the videos, wanted more....but money & time wasn't on his side. On a whole I think this has to be the best Slade documentary, beacuse it was done by Slade fans for Slade fans.
Hi Dave,
Thanks a lot for the info. It was nice to get to know a little more about the story behind. And yes, it IS a very good documentary.
